Andrea Bassi
Senior Associate
Dr. Andrea Bassi is a Senior Associate at IISD. He provides technical leadership for the qualitative and quantitative modelling work carried out at the NBI Global Resource Centre. Andrea specializes in the use of System Dynamics, and has implemented various customized (problem-driven and context-dependent) modelling approaches. In his work with IISD, Andrea has developed the Global Subsidy Initiative Integrated Fiscal Model (GSI-IF), the Sustainable Asset Valuation (SAVi) Model and the Green Public Procurement (GPP) suite of models.
Andrea uses systems approaches, coupled with model co-creation and multi-stakeholder techniques, to identify, quantify, and assess the socio-economic and environmental outcomes of policies and investments. He primarily supports the creation of new, customized models which integrate knowledge across technical and scientific disciplines and research domains.
Since the early 2000s, Andrea has supported sustainability efforts in more than 50 countries. His experience spans from the formulation and assessment of national development plans (e.g., on green economy, climate mitigation and adaptation), the analysis of landscape-level dynamics (e.g., including the use of spatially-explicit models), and with asset-specific economic and financial Cost-Benefit Analysis (e.g., using the Sustainable Asset Valuation, SAVi method and models).
Andrea holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. in System Dynamics, as well as a M.Sc. in Business and Economics. In addition to collaborating with IISD, Andrea is the founder and CEO of KnowlEdge Srl, a sustainability consulting company, and holds research affiliations with the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Andrea is fluent in English, French and Italian.
